CheapMod Assembly

Start with the necessary parts and tools.

15 Watt Soldiering Iron
CheapMod Circuit Board
16 pin Female Header
16 pin Male Header
32 pin PLCC socket
SST49LF020

We will start by soldering these components together.  Clean the tip of the iron frequently and prevent buildup of too much solder.

Notice the bottom of the board is facing up in this picture, this is the side the socket and headder are inserted into.  The only thing to be sure of is to set the key on the socket facing the headder, note the red line, this is the side of the socket that matches the flat corner of the SST chip.

Flip the whole thing over and tack two corners of each of the components to start.

With those four done it is just a matter of soldering the remaining 35 pins.

How much solder? Starting from the right, too much, just right, not enough, not enough.  You want the whole sliver circle around the pin to have solder and you should never see a droop around the pin.  Realistically its not that big a deal, any one of the above pictured solder joints makes good contact and will work fine but shoot for ones that look like the second from the right.

If you bridge a couple points it is usually just a matter of cleaning all the soldier from your iron and passing it between the two pins, the iron should pick up the excess, if it does not on the first try do it again.  If you have lots of trouble or are new you may want to have some de-soldering braid ready.

Now all you need to do is flash the chip and you can move on to installing it.
