Creating a Dual USB Adapter
If you want to run Linux on your Xbox you will need a way
to hook up your USB keyboard to the Xbox. Each of the game ports are USB
ports with a proprietary adapter. Our goal will be to use a USB
motherboard connector or USB extension cable to allow us to splice into a Game
Controller cord and allow us to use it for both gaming and typing.
Ingredients:
Xbox Controller Cord or Xbox Controller Cord Extension End (the small part that
is designed to break away from the rest of the cord)
PC USB Mother Board Cord or PC USB Extension Cord
Two feet of small gauge wire
Tin Foil 2X1"
Soldier
Electrical Tape

Tools:
Soldiering Iron low wattage 15-20W is ideal (higher wattage will melt insulation
of thin wires)
X-Acto knife or other sharp blade
Wire Clippers
Helping Hands (moveable alligator clips to hold things in place)
Start by stripping a section of insulation along the controller
cord. I started with the section that is furthest from the plug that
connects to the Xbox, if I had it to do over I would have chosen the section
closest since it is just a little bit longer. We will want to leave about
1/4" of insulation un-stripped on each end. We will come to that
later.

Now we will crack into the innards of the cord. The
silver braid and tinfoil is shielding, when you have long wires the tend to act
as antennas and pick up radio/micro wave interference by wrapping them in
shielding and grounding the shielding this dissipates most of the
interference. For now we will just cut away the shielding to get at the
four wires inside.

There now we can see what we are working with. Now
we will want to strip a small section of insulation one each wire staggering it along
the wires so we have less risk of a short.

Next we will strip back the shielding on the PC USB cord
and cut and strip the wires at the appropriate length to match up to the
staggered solder points.

Next tin all solder points and position so they line up,
quick dab of soldier on each one and it should look something like this

Now wrap each soldier point with a small piece of
electrical tape. The bundle the entire spliced area with electrical tape
and wrap that with the tin foil

Now remove the 1/4" of insulation we left on either
side of the spliced area. This will reveal the shielding.

Strip
about one foot of small gauge wire and wrap over the whole mess.
Reconnecting the shielding is an important step, one or two inches of unshielded
wire will not cause us a big concern but since we have broken the link to
the ground for the entire wire near the ground point if we did not repair this
we would be creating a ten foot antenna out of the controller cord that will be
plugged into this, at the very least we need to jumper from the start of the
shielding to where it continues down the cord.

I tacked all points with a bit of soldier just to be sure
that the connection was made.

The wrap the entire splice with a bunch of
electrical tape. Tape is cheap and the more rigid you make this the less
likely you will have to re-open it and connect something again.

And What do you know... The keyboard works with my xbox and I can still
use the cord for a controller.
