Inside is a CheapMod 2 with write protect these have been installed with the header pin install for easy swap to other chips if you so desire, the mod can be enabled and disabled via a switch accessible from the outside of the console.  The IDE cable has been upgraded to an ATA100 Cable.

All consoles ship with the legal Cromwell bios installed.  When the disable switch is in the on off position the Xbox functions normally, when in the on position a new screen appears.  It then becomes possible to upgrade this to a bios of your choice by inserting a CD with a 256k bios named "bios.bin" the bios will then be written to the chip and the system will be ready to accept software modifications.
